Korean Election....

after an election, in Australia you would usually see the news header "The Nation has Spoken"....
yes... it's compulsory voting in Australia, and there are donkey-voters...
in Korea... u get the whole day off from work....
and you cant vote from outside your registered district... well, at least i don't think you can.....
as a result "Half the Nation has Spoken"..... coz only 53% of the country voted....
they say its a rumour... but only 8% of females in their 20's voted.... not surprising.... they got the day off work!!! what i DO know is that the department stores were packed out and cinemas were almost booked out.....
nice~~~ psht~
still people here love to chit-chat about politics... write posts and replies on the internet about how lame the government is... how corrupt the government is.... yet..... 53% makes the effort to vote....
im not sure if i wrote a post on my blog last year when the Seoul City Mayor vote with regards to a few new policies were voted on.... they didn't pass the minimum vote count, so the result of the vote was disregarded....
nice one..... -.-
only a quarter of the people in their 20's voted, and females made up only 8% of that.... whether this is exact or not.... im sure they are not far off....
luckily enough for Korea.... the election and government policies rarely and barely influence the lives of Koreans.... at least for the people in their 20's... it doesn't.... maybe that's why they didn't vote....
Korean drama's and Korean TV shows influence the way the people in Korea live much much more.... maybe that's why the people in their 20's vote week in week out on 3 different "idol" audition shows....
nice one.... it's moments like this when i wonder if Korea will ever "grow-up".....
